Hatha Helpers: a new kind of support for independent living
Across Surrey, a quiet revolution is taking place in how older adults receive support – and at the heart of it is a new role: the Hatha Helper. These capable, compassionate professionals are providing life-changing assistance to those who don’t need traditional care but still face challenges with everyday tasks.

Delivered by Chores & Challenges, part of the Home Counties Carers family, Hatha Helpers™ have now provided over 1,200 hours of practical help to 80 clients – and growing. Tasks range from housekeeping and shopping to help with tech and admin. But beyond the to-do lists lies something deeper: trusted companionship, and the confidence that comes from having the support of someone reliable.
A recent study, conducted on behalf of a regional health and social care research body highlights the true impact of the role. Clients reported feeling more in control, safer, and happier. Their homes became more comfortable, and their sense of wellbeing improved. "It feels like someone’s on your side," one client shared. Others described the help as "a great experience with someone who cares."
Whether accompanying a client on errands or on trips out and about, Hatha Helpers are proving that practical support can be personal, and even joyful.
Now, Hatha Helpers™ are being seen as a game-changing addition to the care landscape and we firmly believe this model will soon become a vital part of preventative support across Surrey.
